Art by comedians and comedians for art!

November 2024, New York City: ARTHOUSE.NYC and Big Noyes presented the inaugural ON AND OFF THE HOOK, an immersive and star-studded comedy-themed art exhibition with live performances and panels, produced as part of the NY Comedy Festival.

This unique event blended visual art and stand-up comedy, exploring the humor that unites both mediums. Featuring original works from artists who use comedy as inspiration, the exhibition offers a playful and thought-provoking perspective on the intersection of art and humor, and shows how humor can uplift and inspire in any medium.

Live performances and interactive experiences from notable comedians throughout the event made the art come alive, and the vibe was the opposite of stuffy. Supporting ON AND OFF THE HOOK means not only contributing to the arts but also helping to foster a space where creativity and laughter come together—essential elements for bringing joy, connection and healing. It’s a fun-filled opportunity to bring the community out to champion both emerging and established artists and comedians, while supporting a cultural endeavor that highlights the importance of humor in our lives.

Adam Greener

ADAM GREENER has been a longtime storyteller. As a kid, Adam spent most of every 56-minute class period doodling in his spiral-bound, visual wanderings that often landed him in detention, repeatedly writing “| will not…” In his large-scale loose leaf canvases, seemingly torn from the notebook of a distracted grade-schooler, Adam Greener explores the ways in which the youthful imagination processes the chaotic swirl of social and cultural imagery that seeks to shape, stimulate, and confine it all at once. With his series of ink illustrations, created on handmade “notebook” sheets, he taps into his memories of his early visual preoccupations and re-presents them with a witty and subversive not-so grown-up eye.
